Most might say the jet, since it is much more expensive than Bugatti, a car that retails for a mere $2,128,230. After all, despite its top speed of 253 miles an hour, the Veyron won’t get you to Paris. (For proof of Bugatti’s poor nautical performance, see this sunken Veyron video.)

Now one reviewer says the cost of owning a Veyron may approach $300,000 a year–a sum comparable to running a private jet.

The costs include:

• $10,000 per tire, which the manufacturer recommends changing every 2,500 miles. Presumably, when tooling around at a top speed of 253 mph, this is one area you don’t want to skimp on. In any case, at top speeds, you’ll go through a set of tires every 12 minutes.

• The rims need to be stress tested and replaced every 10,000 miles. That’s $11,525 per rim.

• Scheduled annual maintenance, which costs a whopping $21,000. (Comparatively, annual maintenance on an Enzo will only set you back $2,746.)

Add in other assorted costs and the total approaches $300,000.

Running the car is so expensive that, according to a blogger on Autocar, one Veyron owner loads his car on a trailer for long trips and follows behind on a private jet. The arrangement “works out to be cheaper than driving a Bugatti several hundred miles to reach the dream Tarmac.”

A midsize private jet, meantime, can cost $2,200 to $2,700 an hour–-including catering, fuel, pilots and maintenance. Some jet-management companies put the expense of all the operations at $200,000 a year or less. (Of course, those per-hour trip costs don’t include the purchase price nor depreciation.)

All in all, owning a Bugatti Veyron is not for the faint of heart.

The evening kicked off with Lexus’ LFA spokesperson, Scott Pruett (above), giving a short presentation about the Formula One derived monster.  Scott is an accomplished competition driver, having won the Daytona 24 Hours three times over and placed in the top ten in multiple Sprint Cup races amongst other accomplishments.  He explained that Lexus has used much of the technology from Toyota’s long standing Formula One program. The LFA’s engine is a 4.8 litre V10 rocket that redlines at 9,500 rpm, blasting from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds on its way up to 202mph.

It was a treat indeed to have the LFA, as this particular supercar is one of only four in the entire world.  Rides were given throughout the day, and the LFA generated a substantial amount of intrigue.  Lexus say that they are limiting production to only 500 units worldwide, with 170 of them making their way to the States.  In keeping with its exclusivity, the LFA’s price falls right in line at a substantial $375,000.  With the numbers it puts up, along with its striking looks, however, it most certainly belongs.

We’d like to say thank you to Scott, along with LFA Specialists Scott Biggers and Ron Cooney, and Managers Bryan Riss, Sean Lyons and Tim Bliss for such a wonderful event.  They gave driving tours of the LFA throughout the day and answered all our questions in the evening.  The atmosphere with fine food and wine, along with Japan’s very first true supercar, was festive and made for another successful event at the Vulcan Motor Club.

This Formula 1 racing experience is hosted at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello New York. Monticello Motor Club is a luxury automotive resort and track located 90 minutes from Manhattan. The track is 4.1 miles in length and includes 22 unique turns and 12 distinct configurations. WHAT YOU’LL DRIVE
At the heart of the Formula One Experience event is the 720 horsepower Formula One Arrow A18, a 1,100 lb. carbon monocoque chassis race car equipped with a V8 3.5 liter engine, carbon brakes, and a blistering fast 220 mph top speed. Capable of a heart pounding 0-100 mph time in only 5 seconds, the Formula One Experience instructors are on hand to teach every nuance of driving a real Formula One race car, from the importance of weight transfer to braking and driving trajectories.

After a series of instructional briefings, participants ready themselves to take on the 4.1 mile track. In total, you’ll experience over 30 miles of ultimate track driving in this F1 driving program.
